The Summertime Blues, by Dr. Ogi Ressel
Monday, June 1st 2009Warm hellos to all,
It's good to be back - it's wonderful to get away, but it's also great to
come home!
Module II in Atlanta was amazing - It was wonderful to see all the doctors,
wives, and staff that I haven't seen since Module I!
Linda and I and Brandon then travelled to the beaches of South Carolina for a vacation.
My other two children; Christie, who many of you have already met, and
Adam who is in his senior university year, flew down to meet us for a few
days - Hurricane Dennis cut short our vacation - why would you want to sit
on the beach with your rain umbrella?
While gazing out at the surf one day, Linda suddenly turned to me and said;
"Why don't you write your THOT about The Summertime Blues?"
Seems to be a common malady so let's address an issue which we can all relate to.
What sparked this topic was that while on the beach one day, I had a call from a
doctor who was really upset that things were not going his way despite all his efforts.
I am certain that almost all of you can relate to this - summer seems to a slower
time for most chiropractors. I can almost hear you rise up in a roar and say;
"all consultants say that it's not true!" - I heard the same words when I was in practice.
....and I also fell into that trap of thinking that I was doing something wrong,
that I was off purpose, that I was lazy, that there is no such animal as a "slow summer period."
And I would beat myself up regularly. And I would change my marketing tactics.
And I would worry. And I would get angry. And I would do marketing in a reactionary
manner - the worst! All to no avail.
It took me years to realize this Truth: Summertime is slower. Period. Especially for
those doctor who practice in Canada or in the northern states.
Here is the reality:
Most summers in the north are 2-3 months long - most families (including you)
like to get outside and enjoy the outdoors as much as they can while the
weather is good.
People don't attend lectures, don't spend time in malls, libraries, etc., - just like you.
Most are preoccupied with warm evenings, cookouts, bicycle trips with the kids,
golf, fishing, boating, sailing, kayaking, the cottage, camping, family
vacations, etc. - just like you!
No one is thinking about going to the doctor - unless it is an emergency.
Health care is on hold! Not that it is not important. No. It's just that other things
are more exciting.
Let's face it. Going to see you in your office doesn't quite make it on the excitement
scale as compared to taking your honey out for an evening drive with the top down!
So....get real!
Relax!
....and use this next 6-8 weeks to your maximum advantage.
PLAN for September and the next 11 months!
For those who are PEP Doctors, use this time to get your team on track and plan
your year together - all the Community Outreach activities we have talked about
should be planned well in advance. You should run your newspaper pediatric columns
over the summer but your itinerary of speaking engagements in the locations we
have talked about should not start until mid-Sept.
Once mid-September arrives, you simply execute your plan and get ready to be
flooded with more NPs than you'll know what to do with! You'll need two CAs armed
with bazookas guarding your doors.
Atta Boy! That's the way to do it.
So...enjoy your Summertime Blues - Innate provides them for a reason.
This is not the time for whining, wingding, or crying. No. This is the time for action,
clarity, purpose, power, and certainty!
And for those of you who would like to get in on the action - you'll be very welcome.
You simply need to call me (800-353-3082) and let's get you flying!
If I'm a bit slow to answer your e-mail this week, don't worry, it's not that I have
forgotten. No. I have over 300 letters in my inbox to read and answer.
Warmest wishes to all and I'll speak to you real soon!
Dr. Ogi Ressel
