The best!, by Dr. Ogi Ressel
Monday, June 8th 2009Warm hellos to everyone,
When I was in practice and growing, I listened to a number of speakers
at various seminars I attended, just like you. And they all spoke a similar
language; in order to be successful, you need to do a number of things;
- carry $100 dollar bill in your wallet which you never use (in today's money,
that would translate closer to $500)
- drive a car which bespeaks of your success - it is better to have very used
BMW than a new Toyota Corolla. ( Consider this for a moment: How would
it make you feel if you saw me drive up to teach one of my modules in dated,
slightly rusty oldsmobile? Be honest.
Would you wonder just a bit? I would quarantee that you would. You'd think;
"He's teaching me?" Right! Your patients are no different. They most often
check out your car to make sure they are in the right place. No one wants to
go to someone who is not the best....and if you drive an nice car then you
must be really good because you can afford it. As bizarre as this may seem,
patients really think as such.)
- sign your checks with a beautiful pen - your favorite
- wear first-class clothing - it does not need to be expensive - just simple,
well cut and elegant.
- place your daily affirmations on the mirror so you can see them every morning.
....I could go on...
All these things are designed to prime your innate and spirit with the intent
to be the best image of the best doctor - one who is very successful.
I see absolutely nothing wrong with these games that we play with ourselves
because we are told that they beget success.
But being the best is not just about show. No. It is actually all about being! The best.
The best doctor you've ever been and your community has ever seen. Period.
It also about being the best human being - the best husband/wife, dad/mom,
son/daughter/sister, etc. - no small task!
The thing is that when you change your perception and perspective, your life
also changes.
One of my doctors, Dr. Philip Hallett, who has only completed his first day of Module I,
sent me his Doctor's Report for December 2005 last week. He had this to say;
"I've done no advertizing in several months. And although I have not been "
pushing" for referrals, I've been getting them anyway. Maybe patients are starting
to be aware of what's going on!"
He also said; "I realized the joy in life is finding excellence in service to others -
not in receiving rewards. The deeper I commit, the funner it is."
Being the best is not about glitz. It is about being. It is about caring. It is about
providing a level of service your patients have never experienced before.
It is about dedication.
It is about committment. It is about passion. No whinning, no windging,
no prisoners, and no excuses. Not from you. Why? Because you are the best.
End of story.
So go out there and be.
Warmest wishes,
Dr. Ogi Ressel
