Procrastination, by Dr. Ogi Ressel
Saturday, June 13th 2009Warm hellos to everyone!
Let's talk about an issue which has me greatly concerned.
...And we are all guilty of it in one way or another...
As a Coach, when I walk into the room to teach one of the PEP Modules,
I can almost forecast who in that room will simply explode. There is an aura,
an energy spirit surrounding some doctors - they are absolutely ready to
take their life to a new level.
The flip side is that I can also predict with almost absolute certainty which
of the doctors present will not do well - no matter what amazing gems they
are taught. There is an aura surrounding these doctors and it spells:
P.R.O.C.R.A.S.T.I.N.A.T.I.O.N.
Please let me demonstrate:
I held Module I of the PEP Program in Ft. Lauderdale in early February. It was
a fabulous seminar - packed with people and high energy. Module II was held
just 2 weeks ago and only half the doctors attended. The reason: they left it
too late to get flights and couldn't get hotel reservations - the hotel was full.
The reality is that these are the doctors who most needed to attend!
...And these are also the doctors who are having the most difficulties in practice.
You see, Procrastination is an energy-sucking, debilitating syndrome that robs us
of our dreams, our passion, our focus, and our self-respect.
So why do some do it?
Let's have a look....
Procrastination was the topic of an interesting article I read on the weekend - I
thought that it was worthy of being included as a THOT.
This is such a problem that one researcher even invented a procrastination clock.
Procrastinators look at time differently:
The first hour is the longest and the length of each hour afterwards shrinks as
time progresses.
That's why procrastinators don't do anything during the first hour, or the next,
or the next.
By the time they act, the hours left feel very short.
As a Society, we actually encourage people to procrastinate: Take a look at the
snooze button - what's that all about?
How about great sales as we near a special event? E.g., Christmas sales. Do they
foster early action? I don't think so.
It appears that procrastination is learned - there's a shock.
It is a habit.
And as such it can be broken - just like a subluxation habit can.
..All it takes is a bit of discipline....and being able to look at your life from
the sidelines.
And why should you do it?
Because people out there need your gifts. They need what you have.
So.. the next time you are faced with a decision, choose to act at that time.
Choose not to put it off, as you have in the past.
Choose to be a winner.
Choose to let go of your old habits.
...and Choose to help as many people as you can in the process!
Warmest wishes,
Dr. Ogi Ressel
