Counterintention, by Dr. Ogi Ressel
Thursday, June 11th 2009Warm hellos to everyone,
I have to tell you that I received quite a bit of mail as a result of last
week's THOT regarding "No Limits." It appears that I struck a cord with
a number of doctors.
It also appears that most often our limits are self-imposed. Oh...sure,
there are regs from your regulatory board that you need to abide by,
and municipal policies, and social rules of normal conduct, etc., but I
am not referring to those.
I am referring to those we often place on ourselves.
Many times these are not apparent, but they stifle your life.
R.L. Ron Hubbard, the Scientology guru, called one of them "counterintention."
In short, counterintention is a purpose which is exactly opposite to your main
purpose in life.
I chat with doctors from all over the globe and one doctor mentioned to me
that her purpose was to see 100 people in one day. It was her burning desire:
She could taste it. She could see herself doing it. She could smell it.
It was right in front of her.
But she couldn't understand why it was not happening for her.
She also told me that the only problem with her dream was the fact that after
seeing some 25 people in a day, her back would get really sore. And she
was worriedabout being able to handle four times that many patients in one day.
Counterintention.
Her cross-purpose was actually to limit her practice because of fear of being
able to handle it. This is a good example of self-imposed limits.
And I have to tell you that we all have these!
I suggest that you have a good hard look at your purpose and direction in life.
And then have a good hard look at some of the excuses and games you play with
yourself which prevent you from accomplishing your goals. And be brutally honest.
Make a list of all the possible excuses which are preventing you from realizing
your dream. What would you do if you could have anything?
If you could wiggle your nose and magically have the ideal practice,
where would it be?
And how many patients per week would you be helping?
And how many children would you save?
And what would your office look like?
And how many staff would you have - including associate doctors?
Would you be seen as the best in your city? State/Province?
Now think: What would it take to get you there?
And what is stopping you?
Sometimes the answer is very simple. You.
So...get yourself out of the way and go!
And if you are having a difficult time, please call me. I'll help you see clearly.
Warmest wishes,
Dr. Ogi Ressel
